Project Info:

The J.E. Corette coal- red power plant began its operations in 1968 along the Yellowstone River. Brandenburg was contracted to perform the total plant decommissioning including the environmental remediation, structural demolition and site preparation of the 153-megawatt facility owned by Talen Energy. The plant housed boilers, precipitators, storage tanks, turbine generators, ash silo, concrete chimneys, coal conveyors and numerous buildings. Brandenburg safely removed and disposed of all environmentally regulated materials, including fluorescent lights, PCB ballasts, lead paint, solvents, fuel oils, lubricating oils, greases, mercury, coal and coal ash. Brandenburg removed asbestos from the boiler area of the power plant followed by dismantling of the surrounding buildings. Aggressive precautions were used to assure control of fugitive dust. The 350-foot steel lined, concrete smokestack was demolished using explosives that were strategically placed at the base of the stack causing the structure to fall in a predetermined direction. The demolition and environmental remediation plan was developed and executed without incident. The site is now 74 acres of riverfront property in the process of being redeveloped.
